Color Grading

Color grading is the post-production in which the colorist will choose the style of the color scheme by painting on top of what the film production has established through color correction. During the color grading, the experts will use various editing softwares to style up the footage which usually focuses on enhancing the visual tone and atmosphere of the movie and make it look more cinematic. Colorists will usually use the grading to adjust the balance of the color, white balance, contrast adjusting, etc.

The reason why color grading is essential is for the artistic purpose as it makes sure that the color palette of the film conveys a specific atmosphere, emotion, or style. For instance, the colorist will use the red in dramatic moments to show anger, power, and passion. It can also clarify the file elements narrative by adding a distinct tint to flashbacks or scenes that occur in different locations.
